Downloading QB Desktop 2024
Downloading the latest version of QuickBooks is the first step before you can install and activate the software. Here are the simple steps to download QuickBooks 2024:
- Go to the official QuickBooks website at quickbooks.intuit.com. Click on the Shop Now button on the homepage.
- From the options shown, click on QuickBooks Desktop.
- Under the Buy Now column for QuickBooks Desktop, select Buy Now to purchase the software. This will add it to your cart. Proceed to checkout by clicking the cart icon.
- If you already have a license key, select I’ll activate later during checkout. Once the purchase is complete, you will receive an order confirmation email containing the license and download details.
- After your purchase, log in to your QuickBooks account. Under My Products, locate QuickBooks 2024 and click Download Now. This will start downloading the installation file to your computer.
The size of the installer is around 700 MB on Windows and 1.2 GB on Mac. You must have sufficient storage space before downloading the file. The download time will vary depending on your internet connection speed.
Installing QB Desktop 2024
Once you have downloaded the QuickBooks 2024 installer successfully, you can proceed with installing and setting up the software with these steps:
- Run the installer: Double-click the file you downloaded to launch the installer wizard. Click Next to initiate the installation.

- Administrator password: Set an administrator password to secure and prevent unauthorized access to your company file.
- Industry & Company type: QuickBooks includes over 100 industry-specific terminologies. Select your industry and company type. Click Next.
- Company file: You can choose to open an existing company file or start a new file from scratch. The software will ask you for additional details based on your choice.
- Set up complete: After completing all the steps, click the Start Using QuickBooks button to open the software, register all features, and get started with accounting.
The entire installation process usually completes within 10-15 minutes, provided all prerequisites like .NET Framework are already installed on your system. You must have administrator privileges to install and set up QuickBooks Desktop successfully.
System Requirements of QuickBooks 2024
QuickBooks Desktop is available in three editions – Pro, Premier, and Accountant. The more advanced editions have higher system requirements to support additional functionalities. In general, you would need a relatively modern Windows PC with ample RAM, graphics memory, storage space, and a fast multi-core processor.
Detailed Hardware Requirements
Processor: Intel Core i5 7th Gen or newer, or AMD Ryzen 5 2nd Gen or newer. The clock speed should be at least 2.4 GHz. More cores and higher speeds, like 3+ GHz, provide better performance, especially when working with large company files.
RAM: 8 GB for base QuickBooks Desktop installation. 16 GB RAM for Premier and 32 GB for Accountant editions to allow seamless multi-tasking.
Storage: Minimum 4 GB free space for QuickBooks program installation. For data files, the recommended free disk space is at least 10 times the size of a company file. Solid State Drives (SSDs) greatly improve the loading and saving of files.
